LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 22, 2016) – The finish line is in sight as work continues on the Downtown Crossing portion of the Louisville – Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project. Work on the project is more than 85% complete, with the Downtown Crossing on track for substantial completion in December.
The most complicated part of the project is reconfiguring the Kennedy Interchange where I-65, I-64 and I-71 come together. Crews are untangling the many weaves of “Spaghetti Junction,” eliminating tight curves and short merges. New ramps are separating traffic and creating longer, safer merges.
More than 60 new overpasses and bridges are part of the Downtown Crossing, including 40 in Kentucky and 20 in Southern Indiana.
When traffic moves into final configuration, the Abraham Lincoln Bridge will carry six lanes of I-65 northbound traffic and the improved Kennedy Bridge will carry six lanes of I-65 southbound traffic.

The Downtown Crossing includes the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge, an improved Kennedy Bridge and interstate connections on both sides of the river. Substantial completion of the entire Downtown Crossing is scheduled for December 2016.
