WAVE 3 TV Crashes!

I’d hate to be the switchboard operator at WAVE-3 TV in Louisville tonight. Instead of Kentucky fans tuning in to see the Cats take on the Razorbacks fans saw a Technical Difficulties message on their TV for some 15 Minutes .

As of this post, the Louisville TV station has not said what the problem was (that will probably be talked about during tonight’s newscast).

Don’t necessary blame WAVE-3 for the problem. As a former TV anchor/reporter I can tell you when a problem like tonight’s occurs, everyone at a TV station does their best (from the technicians in the control room on up) to find the source of a problem and fix it.

My bet is the feed from Arkansas was bad. Remember WAVE 3 also lost ad revenue during the 15 minutes so it was in their best interest to get the signal re-established.

You may have a loud sigh just about 8:05 pm. That was the management at staff at the other TV station in town breathing a collective sigh of relief that their station wasn’t the one with the problem.

  1. Bob, You’re being really nice to the folks at WAVE here. I’ve heard from around the state and no one else carrying the game had a problem with the first 15 minutes. I suspect it’s general incompetence at the station. They had the same problem more than once last year, and it also came down to the people at the station not figuring out how to pull down the feed, despite the feed being carried smoothly in other markets.

Not trying to pile on, but we had the game on one of our stations. No problems.
