14 Hands Winery Releases Two New Wines for 2016 Kentucky Derby

2013 Limited Release Kentucky Derby® Red Blend and new 2014 Stampede Red Blend Available Now Nationwide

PROSSER, Wash., April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Bring a taste of the Kentucky Derby® home with 14 Hands Winery! One of the top-selling wine producers in Washington state, 14 Hands is proud to release the bold 14 Hands 2013 Limited Release Kentucky Derby® Red Blend Columbia Valley and a brand new addition to their lineup, the robust 14 Hands 2014 Stampede Red Blend Columbia Valley.

The 2013 Kentucky Derby Red Blend is a limited edition wine, commemorating the 142nd annual Kentucky Derby and the winery’s continued partnership with the “Run for the Roses,”™ four years running. Similar to the previous vintage, this sophisticated wine offers a harmony of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to provide a flavorful wine experience that showcases juicy Washington fruit character. The image featured on the front label is American Pharaoh and jockey Victor Espinoza, the winners of the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby and the 2015 “Triple Crown.”

The 2014 Stampede Red Blend joins a successful family of red blends from the winery, including the perennial fan-favorite Hot to Trot Red Blend and the Kentucky Derby Red Blend. Stampede offers a lively combination of Syrah, Merlot, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Mourvèdre to provide a rich, flavorful wine experience. This full-bodied red blend features the aromas and flavors of spice, cedar, cola and cherry, with a lively acidity and a dramatic enduring finish.

“Stampede is the perfect continuation of our great tradition of red blends,” said 14 Hands winemaker Keith Kenison. “It is soft, approachable and shows loads of fruit. However, what really stands it apart is its richness. Stampede has flavors of cherry and dark berries and an interesting cola overtone. The blend relies on Syrah as the predominant variety, and I love the fact that the savory aroma of it belies the plush cherry flavor. It’s an intriguing contradiction.”

The 2013 Limited Release Kentucky Derby Red Blend and 2014 Stampede Red Blend are available now nationwide and online on 14Hands.com at the suggested retail price of $12 each.

For those who will be celebrating the Kentucky Derby from home, 14 Hands has partnered with actress and Cooking Channel star Haylie Duff for tips on hosting a lively Derby viewing party.

“I love the Kentucky Derby. I’ve watched the races with my family since I was a kid, and it’s such a wonderful experience—you just can’t beat the horses, the fashion and that all-around Southern charm,” Duff said. “I am delighted to help 14 Hands Winery bring all the revelry of the races home for a fabulous party with family and friends.”

As a proud sponsor of the Kentucky Derby for four years, 14 Hands will kick off Derby week at the seventh annual Taste of Derby™ on Thursday, May 5, where several 14 Hands wines will be poured and paired with signature dishes created by nationally renowned chefs. Various 14 Hands wines will also be featured at select Churchill Downs concessions and suites on Kentucky Oaks day, Friday, May 6, and Kentucky Derby day, Saturday, May 7.

About 14 Hands Winery
14 Hands wines are inspired by the spirit of the wild horses that once roamed the arid landscape of eastern Washington. It was here that these special horses – measuring a scant “14 hands” tall – developed their legendary endurance, strength, and tenacious spirit. Like these wild horses, the vineyards struggle in the same harsh conditions of eastern Washington. It is their ability to thrive in this environment that produces the world-class quality fruit that goes into each bottle of 14 Hands. Learn more at14hands.com.
