Three UofL Athletes Arrested on Drug Charges

Two members of Louisville’s Men’s Soccer team and one member of the Diving team were arrested on the 500 block of Barbee Avenue Tuesday. Nick DeLeon, Brock Granger, and Cameron Dehn were found with a large amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and were charged with one count of drug trafficking and one count of possession. Drug trafficking is a felony and will likely mean the end of their careers.

DeLeon and two other athletes are facing a felony drug trafficking charge.

Three other members of the soccer team were cited with possession of drug paraphernalia. Among them Junior Colin Rolfe, Senior Mark Knight, and Sophomore Michael Mauro.

Louisville Athletic  Director Tom Jurich gave a small statement, “We became aware of the matter late Tuesday and are currently gathering information,” Jurich said. “The individuals involved have been placed on investigative suspension while we have an opportunity to review the details of what has transpired. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Many soccer players have been very tight lipped about the situation, but one player who wished not to be named called it a “stain” on the Louisville program. Its unfortunate to see such a step backward considering how far Louisville Soccer has come since Coach Ken Lolla came to UofL. DeLeon was last year’s Big East Rookie of the Year and was expected to be a major contributor in his senior season.

Louisville Soccer just completed its Spring Season on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to the MLS’s Columbus Crew. The team will reconvene in the fall to pursue its second straight Big East Title and hopefully another run at the National Championship.

  1. It’s interesting that on 4/19 three young U of L students were arrested for possessing marijuana, while the next day, at CU Boulder there were nearly 10,000 people gathered together smoking weed with police escorts.
