It’s not the heat, it’s the…nah, it’s the heat.

I knew that it was too hot when I saw a fuzzy white cottonwood seed float by then wither and drop at my feet. I had inhaled one of the little devils earlier in the week and it sent me in a mad, hacking dash to the nearest water fountain—but not this past weekend. Even the cotton candy of airborne allergens was rendered to ash in the broiling record temps of late May. You know…May! That sweet month of baby birds singing in the nest, showers popping the blossoms and folks seemingly running in slow motion through field and dell?…

Whoever Heard of a PDS?

I’ve had my fill of not only weather, but weather panic. And of the new (to me) weather term — PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) Last night, during a perfect evening on the Waterfront, I was enjoying Over the Rhine with a thousand or so folks with a gorgeous sunset in the background, with the Belle of Louisville rolling by on the River. Suddenly, about 8:30, the singer Karin Bergquist announced this was the last song because she’d been told to wrap it up because of the oncoming storm. So there was no encore and the crowd dispersed. Blame the city….

Some Notes for your Social Calendar

My head is spinning for all the exciting events and fun in the next few weeks! But, clearly our titles as River City and Derby City are dueling it out. Which will win? As Cindy shared, Waterfront Wednesday is now the Come Hell or High Water event at Headliners and now I have read that Dog Day at the Park has been postponed due to the weather. Fear not, for I have many things for you to consider in the coming days……… Thursday: The UK Alumni Association is hosting its Red White and Blue Wine Tasting Junior League of Louisville…

“Hell or High Water” Brings WFPK’s Waterfront Wednesday to Headliners

The first water rescue that I’m aware of in local concert history, Hell or High Water showcase will bring the music from the flooded Waterfront Wednesday indoors to Headliners Music Hall on Wednesday April 27. Yes, the Lord may have been willin’ but the creek did rise. Meaning, the show must go on! An impressive debut for the 2011 season, Walk the Moon, Sarah Jaffe and The Deloreans are rising stars that are just too damn hot to be challenged by rising water. This 21-and-over show is free. Doors open and 7:00 p.m. and the bands strike up at 8:00…

Wednesday Cancelled This Week

That’s right. The headline at the WFPL site was “Waterfront Wednesday Canceled”. Seriously, this flooding is getting past the fun stage. Dire weather predictions have moved WFPK-FM to cancel this week’s scheduled Waterfront Wednesday show on the Waterfront with Sarah Jaffe and Walk the Moon. It’s the first time in the event’s 10-year history that one of the concerts has been canceled. There’s no Chow Wagon opening up down there either, as it’s moving to Witherspoon Street. The Belle of Louisville has canceled activities through May 2. The Hole-in-One contest at the Water Tower has moved to Seneca. The Mayor…

No Pledge Drive Here at LouisvilleKY.com

Welcome back from your weekend. Did you watch, and cry, as 21-year-old Rory McIlory choked at the Masters? He had a one-shot lead on the tee at #10, and proceeded to hit his tee shot in a place no one’s ever reached, up by some cabins. He then proceeded to blow any chance with a 7, followed by a series of missed putts, and finished tied for 15th. Meanwhile, Tiger proved mortal in missing a series of short putts after getting a share of the lead on Sunday, and some guy from South Africa I’d never heard of until Saturday,…
