On the Road with the Red and Blue

On the eve of the Battle of the Bluegrass in the Bayou, traveling on the mighty southern roads, the rivalry is evident. From the Big Blue flags flying on the mega tour buses, to the Cards magnets on the car doors, we marvel at the throngs of fans going to the Big Easy. The passion of both teams is getting a little out of hand this time around. Cards fans are more ravenous than any raptors I have ever seen. That hostility level used to be reserved for the most die hard Cats fans. I can say I have watched…

This Is Not Going to End Well, Louisville

I’m a little groggy this morning after staying up half the night watching some tremendous baseball. Wow. My Braves stunk it up, completing one of baseball’s most memorable chokes by losing in 13 to the Phillies. The Cardinals, 8-0 winners over the Astros, are in the playoffs. Not to be outdone by the Braves in the choking department, the Red Sox blew a lead to the Orioles while the Rays came back from a 7-0 deficit to the Yankees. There’s a lot going on around here this weekend, and of course Sunday’s a really big day. No Sympathy for Judy: I’m so glad the Metro Council hasn’t been taken in by Judy Green’s latest antic. She’s produced a note from her doctor saying that undue stress would be unhealthy for her. No shit.  Here’s an idea for Green — Resign and save yourself, and the government,  the stress. The Council voted 17-0 to reject her…

Dominicans in Yum Should Get Better Treatment

I’m not expecting the crowd tonight at the Yum! Center to go all crazy for the Dominican Republic National Team, but at least it’s possible that former U of L stars Francisco Garcia and Edgar Sosa won’t be booed like they were by 24,000 fans at Rupp Arena last night. One big difference between the two games — tonight’s exhibition isn’t sold out.  While it seems that hoops-starved fans in Lexington might ante up for a chance to cheer anyone wearing Wildcat blue, barring a last-minute rush to the box office, there will be seats available at Yum. Oh, by…
