LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: Ankles Away, Lincoln Crossing, Cards, Cats, Tops and Teddy

I’m still not getting out much after ankle surgery, but this week I took advantage of a doctor’s appointment to interview my doctor. Dr. George Quill is certainly “one of the most interesting people in the ‘Ville” based on his expertise on feet and the wonderful work he does for charities. Check it out on Rusty. Also this week: Lincoln Bridge Walk: I can’t believe the new downtown bridge is opening up Monday morning. You can go and walk on it Saturday morning under sunny skies. A Championship To Be Decided in the Bluegrass: On Saturday, Western Kentucky hosts Southern…

THE WEEK: Changing Seasons, for Football, Getting the Jump on Local Terror, the Back Door and Rusty Updates

Peak Season: The leaves are changing, the clocks will soon move back, and the fortunes of local football teams may soon reverse. Last night Kentucky put up a good fight in losing to Auburn 30-27. They’re now 4-2, and the talk of an SEC title has quickly subsided. On Saturday Louisville has its pivotal contest of the year – at Florida State at Noon. Meanwhile, the best offense in the land put up another 55 points last night for Coach Jeff Brohm – Western 55, North Texas 28. I’m a Back Door Man: After talking with John Dant of the…

THE WEEK: Riding On with the GOP Squabble, the Kingdom’s Reign, Wicked Operator and a Tremendous Headline

It’s been a pretty good week, so I’m writing this update while biking to work. OK, while wishing I was biking somewhere other than work. We’ve got some media moves, dirty politics and fun events this week. The highlights: Ziegler Returns: If anyone missed him, controversial talk show host John Ziegler is back on local airwaves. Though its only once a week. The dude is, well, entertaining. WHAS is also bringing back Mandy Connell, so we’ll see how that goes. (LEO Weekly) But Lach, and SportsTalk, is Gone: Lachlan McLean and SportsTalk 84 on WHAS is in the history books. Lach…

The Week Before THE WEEK in Louisville KY

We’re roaring into Derby Week, and watching for trouble in the news. Eight more days until Derby 141. Pappy Heist Case Solved:  The Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Heist, perhaps the most-publicized theft of a valuable liquid in Kentucky history, was solved this week. The bad guys were found out after a tip led detectives to barrels hidden in a distillery worker’s backyard. (CNN) On Second Thought: Metro Councilman Dan Johnson’s attempt to single-handedly cause the merger of city and suburban fire departments, opposed by his colleagues and fire personnel with equal fervor, is over. Johnson offered a statement this week after…

Mabe’s “Prank it Forward” Series Helps Homeless with Pets

Tom Mabe is at it again. This time, he’s doing a prank for good. Mabe’s Prank it Forward series finds deserving people who are doing good work, and rewards them. Mabe was a guest on the Rusty Satellite Show recently. This time, Mabe is helping Beth Green, who runs an organization called “My Dog Eats First.” It provides services to homeless members of our community who have pets. Its mission is to “provide free pet food, supplies, veterinary care and spay/neuter services for the pets of the underserved and homeless within our community. We provide the needed support in a judgement free…

The Week in Louisville KY — Puppies and Rainbows in Your News Feed

Here’s what’s dominating, or clogging, your news feed this week: Puppies: It was National Puppy Day on Monday, so all your dog-loving friends, and my girlfriend Paula, posted pictures of their puppies on Facebook. Rainbows: Good news for homophobic caterers in Indiana. Gov. Mike Pence signed into law the deceptively named “Religious Freedom” bill that allows businesses to refuse to provide services to gays. All they have to do is say it’s against their religion. Convention planners, and many others fair-minded folks, reacted by threatening to refuse to do business in Indiana. (Courier-Journal) Dawne Gee Day: In the same week…

Tom Mabe, Louisville’s clean comedian who made a name for himself with his “Revenge on the Telemarketers” CD, has one of the most popular channels in YouTube. You can hear Mabe talk about his career, how the media has changed and how he’s making it as an entertainer on this week’s episode of the Rusty Satellite Show. Listen in as he tells a…
