LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: Bevin’s Twisted Logic, Politics and Podcasts

Yes, you can count me among those disappointed in all things political this season. This week, those of us paying attention were subjected to some jaw-dropping comments from our Governor, who said on Terry Meiners show that most of us who criticize Trump for all his boorish behavior with women are hypocrites. He said you shouldn’t be knocking Trump for saying he grabs women in the crotch if you have read a racy book. Or played a certain video game. Don’t take my word for it, here are his actual words: “The same hypocrites that are supposedly outraged and offended by…

LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: A Tragedy, a Plea, a Pizza, 2 Great Podcasts and the Game

A lot of you knew James Bickers better than I did. We did some work together years ago, and I occasionally saw him at events like the Waterfront Wednesday shows, but I really felt like I knew him because of the great stories he told on WFPK during his years as a morning host. His death, at age 45, registered as a shock for his colleagues at Louisville Public Media and his listeners, which number into the thousands. Reading tributes online, it’s obvious that we’ve all lost a man with a great mind and a great voice, and he will be missed….

LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: Deer Me at Perry Park, Talking a Dive Bar, Vegan Jerky and the Doctor of Dunk

Greetings from Perry Park, Ky., an amazing little resort an hour or so northeast of Louisville. Home of a fine 27-hole golf course, a small hotel and a restaurant, all of which have been here a while. The logo includes a picture of a deer, and the three courses have names like Antlers and Buckskin, but we had no idea that when we walked outside at dusk we would see, not kidding, more than 50 deer wandering around the fairways. Amazing. If you’re looking for a nice getaway that includes golf, try this place. We found it looking for a…

LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: Good Times Eating Drinking and Talking…and Rocking

It’s time for some recovery, but there are so many cool things to do around here, it’s hard to slow down. No one at LouisvilleKY.com is complaining, of course. My highlight of the week was seeing my musical idol Paul Thorn at Waterfront Wednesday.  A little pre-concert shower deterred some, but Paula and I made our way up near the stage and even got this pic of Paul and Paula during his last-song jaunt into the crowd. Highlight #2 was the Ballotin Five-Course Dinner at Buck’s Restaurant. You can hear a little bit about chef Colter Hubsch’s creations, using all…

LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: Eating, Drinking and Talking About What the Hell is Going On

Welcome in to THE WEEK here at LouisvilleKY.com. We had a Slushie, or two, at the Cocktails with Champions at 3rd Turn Brewery, along with 120 of our close friends. I had a couple before they ran out, and was glad to help raise a little money for the Bike MS event (which I’ve promised to ride in) coming up in June. And I celebrated the 150th episode of the Rusty Satellite Show with newly-elected Brandon Coan and Heine Bros. chief Mike Mays. Here’s a bunch of other cool news items: Eat. Drink. Listen:  Our new website, and podcast, is…

THE WEEK: On N.O., Joe Goes, Doe’s Show, Media Foes and Two News Items that Blow

THE WEEK — It was a challenging return from my New Orleans experience, especially fighting a summer virus, but all’s well as the weekend comes into view. And of course there’s a lot to talk about here at THE WEEK, including some news you probably haven’t seen elsewhere. Journalism – The Gift That Keeps on Giving Good People to PR: It’s election time, and arguably the two best TV political reporters in town are. . . leaving their jobs. WHAS-TV’s Joe Arnold is going to be the new VP of Strategic Communications at the Kentucky Association of Electrical Cooperatives, without…

More Interesting Guests for Rusty — John Nation and Steve Coomes

I was a little worried about taking a portrait of John Nation, who has only done a few thousand really professional shots of all sorts of famous people during three-plus decades as a professional photographer. Thankfully, he suggested the pose here outside the Louisville.am studios with his most recent project, 100 Fascinating Louisville Women.
