LOUISVILLE (December 12, 2016) — Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Louisville is receiving a $29.5 million implementation grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Choice Neighborhoods Initiative program. The federal funding is expected to leverage more than $200 million in private, foundation, nonprofit and public dollars to fully implement Vision Russell, a comprehensive transformation plan for the neighborhood, starting with a phased deconstruction and redevelopment of the Beecher Terrace public housing site. Louisville, KY – This summer, the Vision Russell team, a community-based partnership led by the Louisville Metro Housing Authority and Louisville Metro Government, was awarded a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development which, along with $375,000 in matching funds from Louisville Metro Government, will be used for “action activities” that will help begin to make visible changes in the Russell neighborhood.
