LouisvilleKY’s John Schnatter out at Papa John’s and UofL’s Board of Trustees

By Jackie Hollenkamp Bentley Louisville, KY., – The founder of Louisville-based Papa John’s pizza, is facing quick backlash following his admittance to using a racial slur last week. According multiple news outlets, John Schnatter used the N-word during a conference call in May with an outside marketing business. On Tuesday, Schnatter resigned his position as a member of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees. Trustees chairman J. David Grissom released the following statement: “After speaking with John, I’m confident that his comments, while inappropriate, do not reflect his personal beliefs or values. No member of the board of trustees condones…

LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: We’re All Business (Meetings), Dirty Bourbon, Delbert and the Seafood Lady

You might think it’s a pretty mediocre week when a highlight is attending two business organizations’ annual meeting, but both the Greater Louisville Inc. event at The Palace and the Jeffersontown Annual Meeting at the Community Center were worthy events. Plus, I got a chance to sample a plate from the Seafood Lady, tried a Dirty Bourbon at SET from my pals at Ballotin Whiskey, played rare January golf and got myself back on the racquetball court. And, a new Delbert McClinton recording was released. And it’s called “Prick of the Litter.” How cool. Plus I met some very interesting…

Stars Came Out For the Animals

I was fortunate to be invited to Zoofari 2011 on Saturday, the big fund-raiser for the Louisville Zoo. It was the 31st annual event, and it always brings out some of the city’s biggest and most generous big-shots. The highlight of the evening, at least for the Zoo’s patrons, is the auction of animals up for adoption. No, nobody takes home a polar bear for their back yard, but generous people bid to become adoptive parents of animals at the Zoo. Videos, cleverly done by 2Thomases Video Productions, are presented to encourage the crowd to ante up for one of…

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs – Will Fischer Deliver?

I know, the post-Super Bowl malaise. And we’ve got the dank, gray weather to go with it.  At least the good guys won, though all of us at the annual Gilderbloom Game Fest were pulling for a tie, which for a moment seemed possible. The Steelers made that 2-point conversion to cut the Packers’ lead to 3, and there was some faint hope the Steelers would get the ball back and score a field goal.  Maybe it made John Schnatter a bit nervous, but there would be no free Papa John’s pizza for the masses. The rest of the show…
