THE WEEK: Riding On with the GOP Squabble, the Kingdom’s Reign, Wicked Operator and a Tremendous Headline

It’s been a pretty good week, so I’m writing this update while biking to work. OK, while wishing I was biking somewhere other than work. We’ve got some media moves, dirty politics and fun events this week. The highlights: Ziegler Returns: If anyone missed him, controversial talk show host John Ziegler is back on local airwaves. Though its only once a week. The dude is, well, entertaining. WHAS is also bringing back Mandy Connell, so we’ll see how that goes. (LEO Weekly) But Lach, and SportsTalk, is Gone: Lachlan McLean and SportsTalk 84 on WHAS is in the history books. Lach…

Here’s a summary of those Top Five stories. 1. OUTREACH TO REDNECKS: Not that I worry a lot about what people think,…

One and Won. Slice it how you like, the Cats ride high to NCAA Championship

Our weekend started out with some good old fashioned UL vs. UK smack talk amongst friends leading up to Friday’s matchup. We endedwith a good old fashioned, highly athletic and dramatic basketball game and a CATS championship. But the trip was much more than that, it was a lesson in defending stereotypes, teams and leadership styles of coaches. Love him or hate his past, Calipari is doing his job as one heck of a basketball coach, and we , the Big Blue Nation expect nothing less. As I learned all this week, we have a lot to be thankful for,…

Pitino up for a Brutal day, Calipari on good ol’ Rocky Top.

Best playing goes out to the Kentucky Wildcats today against the  Tennessee Vols @ NoonET.  Coach Calipari is on a killing streak, and for Cats fans it’s “Game On”! Good ol Rocky Top, we hope you take a fall today. Catch it on ESPN tv or UK IMG radio After we watch the Cats- don your Cardinal Red for Pitino’s matchup today at 4pm. The Cards play DePaul, in what the Ville fans hope will be a win to rectify the Godfather of the YUM! Center. It does actually amaze me that my loyal UL fans are actually turning on…

No CATS fans in the ‘Ville? Maybe not at Freedom Hall…

As I sat down to watch the big UK v.UL matchup this year, I wondered what it will be like to have the (BBN) Big Blue Nation seated firmly in the YUM! Center in coming years. And after this week’s pitiful BBN turnout at Freedom Hall to watch the Cats play Arkansas, my thoughts again turn to the YUM! Center. I may not have the politics down like our own Rick Redding, but I do have a few opinions ( imagine that) on why only 14,000+ Cats fans showed for the UK v. ULAR game the other night.   Could…

It’s Time for UK to Drop Its Louisville Trip

Kentucky’s basketball team beat Arkansas-Little Rock last night at Freedom Hall, 73-51. It wasn’t much of a game, as the #2 Wildcats dispatched the Trojans playing hard for only half the game. Only 14,747 fans were willing to shell out $45 to see this spectacle, which had to have been a disappointment to Coach John Calipari, who had used his powerful social media outlets to encourage local fans to show up, even promising he’d have his players stick around for autographs if the Hall was filled. He sent out this message to Big Blue Nation. BBN, are we filling up…

Jay-Z, Drake, and Matt Jones: The Rebirth of Big Blue Nation

Behind the 69-62 final score, something bigger happened Saturday afternoon in Lexington. It wasn’t Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or Russ Smith’s stat line. It wasn’t the horrid officiating. Jay-Z, arguably the most popular rapper in the world, sat courtside at Rupp Arena. If you aren’t familiar with Sean “Jay-Z” Carter, you may know his pregnant wife Beyonce. Or perhaps, his current collaborator, the ever controversial Kanye West. A friend helped it sink in at a New Year’s Eve party. “Why would Jay-Z spend his New Year’s Eve in Lexington, Kentucky?” The answer is simple, but the ramifications are boundless. Thanks to John Calipari and his mega-teams of…

Cardinals Can’t Overcome Kentucky’s Talent, 69-62

In a wild, whistle riddled, Battle of The Bluegrass, the better team won. The explosiveness of the talented Wildcats proved too much for the Cardinals to handle. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist led the Cats with a monstrous 24 points and 19 rebounds. Kidd-Gilchrist at times couldn’t be touched by the Louisville defenders. Every time the Cardinals would think about closing the deficit, Kidd-Gilchrist would topple the comeback with a big play. Meanwhile, Russ Smith put on clinic for the Cards. Smith recorded 30 points, the game high. Russ See TV appeared to be the only player unafraid to shoot the ball. Smith…
