Highs and Lows on Tuesday: Herbstreit, a Festival of Ideas and Meeting a Reptile

Quite a week in my hometown. On Tuesday, ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit answered questions friend of Rusty John Asher at a charity luncheon for Catholic schools held in conjunction with the Trinity-St. X football game on Friday. Herbstreit said he’s a regular at the Derby, which Asher reminded us is only 214 days away. It was the start of the Idea Festival, where Angie Fenton hosted a session called Thrivals targeting young adults. I stopped in and heard several high school students ask intelligent questions about what will be different in 2035. One young man named Thomas was from Fern…

It’s Angie Fenton and Diane Williamson on the Rusty Satellite

This week’s podcast on the Rusty Satellite Show features Angie Fenton, who describes her media career and recent exit from the Voice-Tribune, as well as some antics she’s been able to be a part of as the go-to reporter on WHAS-TV’s Great Day Live. Angie also helps me make sense of news items about Jerry Abramson and U of L football. I would describe Diane Williamson as smart, bubbly and gifted with a golden voice. Listen to the podcast to find out how she knows so much about cranes and jibs, and her dream job of helping single males with…

A Great Day for Angie, WHAS

Angie Fenton, managing editor of the Voice-Tribune, Red Carpet hostess at Churchill Downs and all-around media maven, doesn’t need another job. But she says she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be  a part of WHAS-TV’s upcoming daily lifestyle and entertainment program, Great Day Live. Fenton will join hosts Terry Meiners and Rachel Platt on the one-hour show airing at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. Great Day Live! debuts August 22. Fenton will continue her role with the growing newspaper. Kirk Szesny, executive producer of the new show, said that negotiating the agreement with Fenton took some time, but that’…

This is NOT a LouisvilleKY.com Test

Notice anything different this morning? No? Well we have taken the “Beta” tag off the masthead here at LouisvilleKY.com, so no more using the “we’re just in Beta” excuse for any shortcomings on the site.  We’ve been tinkering with things for about 6 weeks, so it’s about time, right? On Friday, several of us went down to Browning’s on a beautiful evening and had a few beers. Thanks to everyone from the team who joined me: Cindy Lamb, Angela Champion, Brigid Kaelin, David Caldwell, Holly Brockman Johnson, Kirk Kandle (who arrived, of course, on his bike), Jeff Schneider and our…

Groundhogged in Louisville

Up in Punxsatawny, Phil the Groundhog did not see his shadow this morning, so you can count on an early spring.  Yippee! Sometimes it seems like I’m in that Groundhog Day movie with Bill Murray, because every year I go to the same party and they show the movie and all the same people are there. Just kidding. I do have plans to attend the 33rd Annual Groundhog’s Day Celebration, hosted by my cousin Julie Ryan and her husband Kevin, who own the most extensive collection of Groundhog crap this side of Punxsatawny. Fortunately, the location changes every year, and…
