Scrapboarding- Scrapbooking on Steroids

Artist: Carol Labashosky

Running some errands I discovered the newest exhibit at Mellwood Arts Center’s Pigment Gallery. It just opened Friday and will be up through April 31. Artist Carol Labashosky’s “Scrapboarding Beyond the Book” is kind of like scrapbooking on steroids. Carol describes in her artist statement “scrapboarding has no boundaries, but many layers.” If you are an avid scrapbooking fan you’ll enjoy and appreciate this exhibit. This artist doesn’t confine herself to the 10” x 10” paper boundary but has works that range from smaller 12” x 12” pieces to larger 3’ x 3’ pieces. Scrapboarding is a new term to me and Carol has submitted a registered trademark application at the U.S. Trademark and patent office to make it her own.

The artwork combines photos, pretty papers, artifact, and trinkets, to tell a story. I like the idea of taking what is seen as a hobby, scrapbooking, off the shelf and onto the walls. I’m sure there will be some people that say ”Hey I could do that!” and I say you might be right, but Carol Labashosky has actually done it.

If you would like to meet the artist and talk to her about Scrapboarding, the Exhibit Reception will be held during the Friday, March 25, F.A.T. Trolley Hop from 6pm – 9pm.

The Pigment Gallery is just inside the front entrance at Mellwood. Parking at the Mellwood Arts Center is free.

  1. Thank you for the review and visiting the exhibit. It means a lot to me when people see my work and comment. I like your comment, people say, I could do that, but Labashosky did ! PS Love the St James Art Fair. Someday, I’ll get there. Thanx for all you do for artists. — Carol
