Rusty Satellite Goes for Holi Gin; and Visits the Morton Center

IMG_2381

The Rusty Satellite Show, the city’s most interesting podcast, returns for week 323 with visits to a little-known warehouse on St. Louis Avenue in the West End and to the Morton Center, located in the what many residents know as the old Hasenour’s Restaurant. And it’s all put together in the Re/Max Properties East Studio on Timberwood Circle.

Kartik Kamat moved here with his family when he was eight. By the time he enrolled at U of L, he was already involved in business and an aspiring entrepreneur, which is how he ended up with thousands of Beanie Babies. After getting his MBA at U of L, Kamat ended up running the family business, Granite America, and fulfilling his dream to become a spirits maker. Thus, the story of Holi Gin and its colorful packaging ensued.

If you’re reading/listening on Thursday, Sept. 12, it’s time for Give For Good Louisville, a community-wide promotion for donations to charities. One of those doing good work is The Morton Center, where I caught up with CEO Priscilla McIntosh. She told me about her organization’s work to stop addiction and about the problems she sees every day. McIntosh shares her own experience living with an addict.

I had to squeeze the show in between unproductive trips to the courthouse for jury duty, and let’s just say I don’t like it. Whitney Austin offered an inspiring talk at the Breakfast of Champions about her work to stop gun violence with the Whitney Strong non-profit. And it’s a big weekend — the first of three consecutive music festivals kicks off with Hometown Rising at the Fairgrounds, and it’s time for the annual Gaslight Festival in Jeffersontown.

All that and more on the longest-running podcast in the ‘Ville, brought to you by Passport Health Plan, the Eye Care Institute, Heuser Health and the Sokoler Team at Re/Max Properties East. Call me at 502-439-6391 to talk about local real estate.
