Louisville musicians perform Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” Tonight

I’ve been up since 7:30 on this lovely Saturday morning trying to learn these new Fleetwood Mac tunes for the encore. Yes, we’re expecting an encore because the show is just THAT good. For those of you who don’t know, several of us are playing the “Rumours” album in its entirety tonight (Saturday, March 12) at the Rudyard Kipling. Two shows: 7:30 & 9:30. Call ahead for more info or visit www.therudyardkipling.com. Learning this album has been a lot more work for me than it should be, mostly because I just really never listened to Fleetwood Mac. Sure, I listened…

Louisville Rallies Back to Overtake Notre Dame, 83-77

The Cardiac Cards strike again. Louisville continued its impressive play with a comeback from 16 down to defeat a surging Notre Dame team. The Cardinals went into the half down 14 and having huge problems pushing the tempo. Yet when Rick Pitino and company emerged, UofL was able to get back into the swing of things. The Cardinals came out of the break with a full court press that quickly caused the Fighting Irish some problems. Louisville was able to cause 11 turnovers, many unforced, which transferred into much needed momentum. The Cards also excelled at shutting down Big East…

Fat Men in Frankfort and Goofoffability

They’re ugly, too: Gov. Steve Beshear called members of the Senate a bunch of “fat guys” yesterday during an appearance on Mandy Connell’s radio show.  In response, David Williams called him “sophomoric” and claimed Beshear is a “weak governor.” And it’s only March. Why do the taxpayers have to pay these guys to hurl insults at each other during a costly special session? Strike Up the Band: I can’t figure out why the Metro Council had to pass an ordinance for this, but they did. And now live music is allowed in Old Louisville. It wouldn’t have happened without the…

Marra and Cards Steamroll Marquette, 81-56

Welcome home Mike Marra. The sophomore sharpshooter’s return to his native northeast was his best performance of the season. As soon as Marra came off the bench he was electrifying, putting up 11 before halftime. He finished the night shooting six of ten from behind the arc. Marra’s 22 points was one shy of hs career high but easily led the Cardinals to an easy victory over the Golden Eagles. The Cardinals struggled early in the game, at one point Marquette was up 11-2. But once the Cardinals shifted into gear, they never looked back. They cruised into halftime and emerged by scoring…

Miller Starts Recovery from Government with Blog

Remember Jonathan Miller? He was appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear to a big job in state government in 2007. This came after he, along with running mate Irv Maze, dropped out of the governor’s race and threw their support to Beshear in May.  Now he’s the state’s finance secretary, and Maze got appointed to a cushy judge’s spot. Miller announced today that he’s quitting government, joining a law firm and starting up a blog called The Recovering Politician. Here’s how Miller expressed it in a release today: I am very excited to announce that on April Fools’ Day, I will…

Turn Lemons into Lemonade

Why does it always take negativity to shine a light on something that is inherently positive? It’s funny how that works. Most public relations people will tell you there’s no bad publicity. I would agree with that if the P.R. people can spin it correctly. Clearly The Fund for The Arts needs a pr person to step up and help them out. The recent public outrage involving unprofessional answering machine messages left by Allen Cowan at The Fund for The Arts, has shed some public light on the power The Fund for The Arts have in this community. I would…

I Should Have Been a Photographer

Photography is an art.  People who have the ability to tell stories with their images are amazing.  It requires talent, practice, and no shortage of expensive tools.  That being said, I think we might rely on our friends with iPhones and buy a message chair.  Or maybe just hire someone to “take my class picture.” The modern trend is to hire a photographer to do a “photo-journalistic” interpretation of your wedding.  They don’t simply take the basic family photos, but they also get the candid dance floor shots, and intimate loving moments.  For this, they charge a pretty penny.  While you…

Catfight on the Council – Green Faces the Music

A funny thing happened when troubled Metro Councilwoman Judy Green appeared on the Simmons Saturday Morning Solutions program on WLOU-AM 1350. It’s a gospel station, and some of its programming, including this show, is underwritten by the Rev. Kevin Cosby’s St. Stephen Church, of which Green is a member. The show offered Green yet another opportunity to defend her actions — hiring relatives for a jobs program, taking a bribe, using an assistant’s name to run up a $25K credit card debt. Her actions are the focus of an Ethics Commission complaint, which will be considered next week. Thus far,…
