Louisville, Ky., – Craft beer is the focus of this year’s Bardstown Bound. The 12th annual event kicks off Saturday, May 16, alongside the Valu Market beer festival. The finest restaurants and pubs in the city open their doors and participate in this annual Highlands favorite. Here are a few highlights:
BEER BUS TOUR
A bus tour beginning and ending at Valu Market on Bardstown Road will take you on a beer tasting journey as you travel to locations around the area. These locations include: Dragon King’s Daughter, O’Shea’s Irish Pub, Flat 12 Bierwerks (Southern Indiana), Buckhead’s Mountain Grill, and Gordon Biersch. Arrive at Valu Market at 12:30 pm and be ready to board the bus at 1:00 pm and return around 4:30 pm. The cost is $25 per person when you purchase a ticket in advance via PayPal. Tickets are $35 per person on the day of the event, and they will only be accepting cash then. A ticket includes a keepsake growler, a Valu Market Beer Festival wristband, road trip sandwiches by Chef Ellen Gill McCarty of Science Hill, and a growler fill-up before you leave. A portion of the bus ride proceeds will benefit Apron Inc.
As in years past, the Valu Market Beer Festival will take place in the side parking lot at Mid City Mall near the Back Door between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Over 200 beers are available for tasting, and there will be food available from the Back Door. There is plenty of time to enjoy this part of the event when you return from the beer bus tour. A portion of the Beer Festival proceeds will benefit the Bluegrass Center for Autism.
As always during Bardstown Bound, participating boutiques, shops, restaurants, and pubs will be offering up specials and entertainment throughout the day. Some of the beers that are featured on the beer bus tour will also be served at these locations. You can explore by walking the Bardstown Road and Baxter Avene corridor or take the Thirsty Pedaler for free from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm between Eastern Parkway and Baxter Ave.
