LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK: Let’s Talk about Getting Past the Election, and Whiskey

In attempting to come to grips with the outcome of the election and the idea of a President Trump, I invited a local Republican woman to be my guest on the Rusty Satellite Show. I think you’ll enjoy my conversation with Metro Councilwoman Angela Leet, who has plenty of positives to speak about concerning LOCAL politics. I also talk with social media manager Katie Delaune, a recovering TV news reporter, about the election and an important event coming up this weekend — the Candle Glow Gala benefitting Hosparus.

Of course, I can’t say the election results aren’t disappointing to me, and I’m not just talking about the big one. In the competitive District 16 race, my friend and recent Rusty guest Gill Holland lost his bid for a Metro Council seat, lost to Scott Reed by less than 700 votes in the Prospect district.

Another ex-Rusty guest, David Jones, Jr., lost his re-election bid to the Jefferson County School Board. Democrats lost the House, and leader Greg Stumbo, with whom I campaigned back in 2007, was upset in his re-election bid.

But most disturbing of all, the other crazy Dan Johnson, the one who expressed no remorse for posting racist characterizations of Obama on Facebook, beat incumbent Democrat Linda Belcher by less than 200 votes in a Bullitt County race for the Kentucky House.

And while Kentucky handed its eight electoral college votes to Trump, at least here in Jefferson County Clinton won with 54 percent of the vote. And, former Rusty guests Morgan McGarvey  and Perry Clark won re-election to their House seats, and John Yarmuth won big here as well.

OK, enough about elections. Take a listen as I talk with special guest co-host Dan Vonderheide about podcasting and other non-election topics.

Let’s Talk Whiskey!  In the current episode of EatDrinkTalk, the podcast, I talk to G.M. Wayne Sweeney of Merle’s Whiskey Kitchen (formerly Manny & Merle’s) about the downtown nightspot’s new image. Plus you can hear a great interview from Steve Coomes with the operator at one of his new favorites — La Chasse on Bardstown Road. Steve and I also sort through some news and talk about our favorite delectables and beverages of the week. Listen in!
