DERBY FESTIVAL FOUNDATION ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY
March 8, 2018. Louisville, KY. – Get ready to ROBORUMBLE! Samtec has teamed up with the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation and Jefferson County Public Schools for the 2018 RoboRumble Regional Robotic Tournament. The event is this Saturday, March 10 at Marion C. Moore High School. The tournament challenges students and teams from Jefferson County schools and surrounding regions to design, build and compete with robots. The competition begins at 9 AM with the awards ceremony following at 3 PM.
“Samtec is pleased to sponsor the KDF Foundation RoboRumble Robotic Tournament,” said John Hynes, Director of Product Marketing. “We are committed to supporting programs that will encourage and develop the next generation of engineers, programmers and technicians”
This is Samtec’s first year as title sponsor of the event. Their 32-ft-long Maker Mobile will also be on site for the students to experience. The mobile makerspace contains CNC equipment – laser cutters, 3D-printers, and more – to help educate and inspire future innovators.
The 2018 RoboRumble will include four events:
- RXC Robotics Challenge requires teams to program their robot to solve specific challenges within time restraints.
- Sumobot Competition is a double-elimination tournament. In each round, two robots will attempt to remove or disable one another while remaining on an elevated circular platform.
- Live Programming event involves on the spot programming. Teams are given multiple tasks at the competition, they then have two hours to build or program their robot to successfully complete those tasks.
- Robotic Usage has students focus on creating a robot under one of two functions; either it is a transformation of another item or it transforms the way one would perform a task.
“The tournament is a great opportunity to see how students are using 21st Century and programming skills to design, build and compete with robots,” said Suzanne Wright, JCPS K-12 Director of Curriculum Management.
The Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation event is sponsored by Samtec and coordinated by Jefferson County Public Schools.
