Louisville, 1/26/2011, KFC Yum Center.
West Virginia was always going to be a tough game for UofL, but Pitino’s Cards came on to the court full of energy and took an early lead (14-7). Louisville’s lead didn’t last long and West Virginia had taken both control and a commanding lead by half time (37-26). It was beginning to look like the game was over.
Coming into the second half the first 5 minutes looked like more of the same until the Mountaineers simply lost interest. The Cards came back, albeit slowly. and it took W. Virginia fourteen minutes to score a basket – by which time Louisville had finally regained the lead.
With less than two minutes left in the game Louisville fouled (yet again) and it turned into a one point game. Yes fourteen minutes of not scoring and all Louisville could respond with was a paltry 3 point lead. Fourteen minutes! Soon there after W.Va hustled into the lead once again but the clock had all but ran out. With 4.5 seconds left on the clock the Cards got lucky with Siva’s final layup and finished the game 55:54
Mr Pitino, don’t have a heart-attack. Scold them but please be gentle, we are running out of players.
