WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Series – May 31st Concert
Louisville’s favorite concert series continues Wednesday, May 31, 2017. The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series is a monthly free concert on the Big Four Lawn in Louisville Waterfront Park, located next to the Big Four® Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge.
This concert will feature The Mavericks, Hollis Brown and Peter Searcy. It’s sponsored by Goose Island Brewing Company, Kroger, Republic Bank, Passport Health Plan and Friends of the Waterfront. Additional support comes from Louisville City Football Club, Quest Outdoors and Live Nation.
“The Mavericks’ “Brand New Day” is skillfully paced for the dancefloor, straddling the southern American borders and shores with a spinning wheel of styles and rhythms. Led by rhapsodic vocalist Raul Malo, the band displays its usual high standards on tunes brimming with Tex-Mex accordions, Cuban rhythms, sophisticated 1960s pop, sensitive ballads and swirling bossa nova.” — Pablo Gorondi, Associated Press
“Hollis Brown is a hard-driving, road-seasoned rock ‘n’ roll machine capable of steamrolling through amphitheaters and intimate venues alike.” — Nashville Scene
Louisville’s own Peter Searcy (Squirrel Bait, Big Wheel, Starbilly) has announced his next full length, and if the first single, “Better Lie,” is any indication, it’s going to be a total rocker. Peter’s live WFPK Waterfront Wednesday performance will be the official album release party for Leave It All Out There!
The Big Four® Lawn “opens” at 5pm, and the music begins promptly at 6pm. The remaining dates for the 2017 season are June 28, July 26, August 30, and September 27.
To alleviate parking congestion caused by the KY/IN Bridges project, a free trolley service, courtesy of Republic Bank, will be offered between Witherspoon and the Big Four Lawn for people who park West of I-65. The Republic Bank Easy Trolley will run a continuous loop between 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Outside alcohol is prohibited. No coolers, glass or pets allowed in the event area of the Big Four Lawn and the adjacent park areas. For more information, please call (502) 814-6519.
About WFPK Waterfront Wednesday®
The Waterfront Development Corporation (WDC) and WFPK first partnered in 2002 to produce an innovative concert series that showcased local and emerging national recording artists as heard on radio station 91.9 WFPK. Each free concert attracts large audiences to mingle, dance and enjoy the river in a family-friendly park atmosphere with a cash bar and upscale festival fare. The event has become a thriving city institution, drawing thousands to Waterfront Park and helping Louisville secure an international award as a top city for festivals. In addition, the Southeast Tourism Society selected WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® as one of their Top 20 Events.
