LOUISVILLE, KY.  – The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) unanimously approved a Churchill Downs Racetrack request to lease and operate a “racetrack extension” at the new Louisville Thoroughbred Society, a private membership club that is scheduled to open in downtown Louisville later this year.

Churchill Downs Racetrack and the Louisville Thoroughbred Society, which is under construction at 209 East Main Street in downtown Louisville, have entered into a lease agreement to allow simulcasting and pari-mutuel wagering at the private membership club.

The Louisville Thoroughbred Society, which is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the horse racing industry in Kentucky, was founded by Gene McLean along with Mike Schnell and Dave Steinbrecher, who own and are restoring the historic downtown property to be known as the Hughes Lofts.

The Louisville Thoroughbred Society will have a state-of-the-art audio and video network and there will be up to 12 pari-mutuel self-service wagering machines for betting on simulcast races. Other amenities at the Louisville Thoroughbred Society will include a premium Cigar bar, outdoor patio bar and entertainment area, an indoor “library” and meeting spaces.

“This is an exciting partnership with a team that is passionate about seeing horse racing thrive in Kentucky,” said Churchill Downs
Racetrack President Kevin Flanery. “We are pleased to provide additional opportunities for fans to wager and look forward to seeing
how the product is embraced by the locals.”

The Louisville Thoroughbred Society is accepting membership applications online at https://thelouisvillethoroughbredsociety.com and is expecting to be operational later this year.

“Tuesday was a big day for us,” McLean said. “This is a tremendous step forward in all of our efforts to provide our members and guests
with a premium, first-class and top-of-the-line private club that is dedicated to promoting the greatest industry and sport in the
Commonwealth. We are very excited and thankful to be partnering with Churchill Downs, the world’s most historic and prestigious racing venue on our new Louisville Thoroughbred Society.”

Tuesday’s KHRC approval is contingent upon a final approval of an on-going background check on the Louisville Thoroughbred Society’s three principal founders, which is expected to reach a conclusion in the next few weeks.
