Hall of Fame Coach Denny Crum a Hometown Hero….well, duh

According to the wisdom and knowledge of FaceBook, Coach Denny Crum will be the newest  notable to have a Hometown Hero mural.

Mayor Fischer will be there for ribbon cutting ceremony for DENNY’S LOUISVILLE Mural this Sunday, Feb. 26, 12:30 pm. The mural will be put up on the west-facing wall of The Marriott Courtyard Hotel across Main Street from the KFC YUM Center, adjacent to the courtyard of the LG&E Building.  There is a 2 pm tipoff at YUM for U of L and Pittsburg. Coach Crum will arrive at the mural site at 12:30, at which time Mayor Fischer will cut a yellow ribbon and give a brief talk/cheer about Denny. U of L Pep Band will also be there!

This is a project of The Greater Louisville Pride Foundation as are all the other such murals around the city. Sadly, the Hometown Heroes campaign seems to have let their domain expire, but the cached version says: The Foundation’s mission is to “enhance Louisville’s image as an exciting city with tourists, business visitors and people who simply may be passing through.”

So, how did Coach Crum finally get one of these? Again, the website says/said: Candidate + consensus + sponsor + wall = mural is pretty much the formula for a finished Hometown Heroes posting. So, I wonder who ponied up the sponsorship? Maybe UofL? I mean, plenty of the Coach’s former players have long been a staple on sides of buildings around town… The previous murals include:

As Louisville Magazine has been asking for years, who should be the next to be emblazoned on a building?
