Morehead’s Day in the Sun

Want to know a little bit more about Morehead? Of course, Billy Reed has a perspective on the Eagles’ that you didn’t. We’re proud here at LouisvilleKY.com to present his thoughts on the Eagles’ victory over U of L. Read more of Billy’s thoughts at BillyReedSays. by Billy Reed It’s too bad for longtime Kentucky hoops fans that the greatest victory in Morehead’s history had to come at the expense of Louisville. Then again, from the Eagles’ standpoint, it made their remarkable achievement just a little sweeter. Had the 13th-seeded Eagles upset any other No. 4 seed, it wouldn’t have…

The TV Madness is New

With the new broadcasting plan for the NCAA Tournament, viewers who don’t go to sports bars may have a tough time finding their favorite team.  And for WLKY-TV, the local station that traditionally boasts the best ratings in the nation for the tournament, the new arrangement could really hurt its numbers. That’s because WLKY has no say in what game CBS execs in New York choose. The network gets first choice, and WLKY has lucked out today because it has the Kentucky game. But U of L’s game with Morehead is on TBS (too bad for you non-cable subscribers). And…

TARC Driver Gets Up Early to Pedal His Way to Downtown Louisville

Hugh is a TARC driver. His work day starts at 5:45. He likes the bike-on-board racks on the front of all the TARC coaches as much as I do. “I use them in the evening because I’m not much of an evening-traffic rider. I ride in the morning for the exercise and to save gas. And when I get off in the evening I usually put my bike on the TARC and TARC back home.”

Louisville to Houston in the Madness

Hoops Hysteria is here. For three weekends in March, the entirety of our community will be sneaking in peeks at the scores at the office. Husbands will beg their wives to eat in the TV room. Laptops everywhere will be streaming March Madness On Demand, and a college kid will skip out on beach time in 80-degree weather to catch a couple games. There is nothing like March Madness. Louisville has a tough draw in the first round. The Thursday match-up with Morehead State is no cupcake. The Eagles have a strong defense and Kenneth Faried, the most prolific rebounder…

Cards Want Morehead; Cats To Tampa

OK, sports fans. Gabe, our regular LouisvilleKY.com sports dude, has more important things to do than follow the Cards to Denver. He went to the Lady Gaga show Saturday, then it was off to spring break in sunny Florida.  Yes, I’m jealous. But I did watch the Big East Championship while he was busy Gaga-ing. What Gabe missed Saturday was another amazing performance by this Rick Pitino team, which fell in overtime 69-66 only after Mike Marra missed a crucial free throw. He’d gotten fouled on a three-point attempt with seconds remaining, with the Cards down 3. He calmly canned…

Louisville Rallies Back to Overtake Notre Dame, 83-77

The Cardiac Cards strike again. Louisville continued its impressive play with a comeback from 16 down to defeat a surging Notre Dame team. The Cardinals went into the half down 14 and having huge problems pushing the tempo. Yet when Rick Pitino and company emerged, UofL was able to get back into the swing of things. The Cardinals came out of the break with a full court press that quickly caused the Fighting Irish some problems. Louisville was able to cause 11 turnovers, many unforced, which transferred into much needed momentum. The Cards also excelled at shutting down Big East…

Marra and Cards Steamroll Marquette, 81-56

Welcome home Mike Marra. The sophomore sharpshooter’s return to his native northeast was his best performance of the season. As soon as Marra came off the bench he was electrifying, putting up 11 before halftime. He finished the night shooting six of ten from behind the arc. Marra’s 22 points was one shy of hs career high but easily led the Cardinals to an easy victory over the Golden Eagles. The Cardinals struggled early in the game, at one point Marquette was up 11-2. But once the Cardinals shifted into gear, they never looked back. They cruised into halftime and emerged by scoring…

Biking All the Buzz in D.C.

In case you’re just tuning in, I’m posting this from Washington, D.C. I got here by bike in an all-day rain on Saturday — 130 miles from Louisville to Cincinnati — and by Amtrak. The train ride took 20 hours. A shoot-out on the railroad tracks caused a five hour delay when police turned the tracks into a real live CSI. Special thanks to my RAGBRAI pal Steve Edwards for transporting me and my bike to his Potomac Falls home, where he and Sharon treat me like a king. I’ll be using the Metro Orange Line and commuting to Metro…

No End in Sight for (Judy) Green News

No paper today? For you folks still getting the actual newspaper delivered to your home, that technology apparently failed again today. So you might as well go online for your news. Here’s some: More Heat For Green: One noteworthy story in today’s paper details how Judy Green is getting some more heat, this time from Councilman Jim King, who wants the Ethics Commission to expand its investigation. Green tells the C-J that the allegation of accepting a bribe is no big deal because it’s all been investigated already. She doesn’t realize that people are upset because of the findings in the…
