Louisville’s Lamar Jackson Show Continues

LouisvilleKY.com photographer Bill Brymer worked the Louisville Cardinals’ game against North Carolina State. Behind the fantastic Lamar Jackson, #7 U of L blew out the Wolfpack with a 44-0 first half en route to a 54-13 victory at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. As a result of the weekend in college football, the Cards moved up to #5 in both the AP and Coaches polls — thanks to Ohio State’s upset loss to Penn State, and previously unbeaten Texas A & M’s defeat against top-ranked Alabama. Louisville QB Lamar Jackson cemented his favorite status for the Heisman Trophy, passing for 355…

LouisvilleKY’s THE WEEK — New Ranking, New Restaurant and Plenty to Do

Most of us really enjoyed the city’s first week in the Top 5 of college football, cranking up the volume on activities as the calendar signaled that autumn is here. I saw the Showtime series, “A Season With Florida State Football” and loved seeing how Jimbo Fisher and his bunch reacted to losing. It was interesting to see the Seminoles go through a practice at Waterfront Park in the pre game and enter into Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, where they were as surprise as fans were that the Cards put a 63-20 pounding on them. I don’t see these guys…

For the first time, the ESPN GameDay broadcast originates from Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, the lights at the Churchill Downs twin spires are glowing red; a sports talk station is doing a 24-hour pre game show, and John Drees is mixing up a batch of the “Seminole” a combination of Grenadine and Goldschlager, for our tailgating party that starts too early. Let’s hope Bobby Petrino has the guys ready, and that Lamar Jackson continues to dazzle. It says here the Cards win in a battle to the wire, 44-37. Meanwhile, here are a…

LouisvilleKY’s The WEEK: A Blowout, Bourbon Days, and Bluegrass Lead Into Labor Day Weekend

After a 56-point first half at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, the biggest talking point for the football-crazed fans in the upper deck was whether the Cards could actually score 100 points. “Bobby, Don’t Let Up!” we yelled at Petrino. Of course, no one expects any football team to score 4 TDs per quarter, but it sure was fun while it lasted.  Watching phenom QB Lamar Jackson carve up a Charlotte secondary that seemed to be leaving at least one Card received wide open on pass plays left us marveling at Jackson’s talents. Petrino chose to, well, let up, at the start of…
