Disaster relief in Southern Indiana – Where to help and how to get help

I won’t pontificate about the many reactions we are all having on a very personal level to the aftermath of Friday’s devestating storms that demolished the communities of Marysville and Henryville in our own regional community. But, here is how to help and where help can be found. Please know this is a long term clean up and recovery effort. It will change and evolve with the need and resources available to government, nonprofit and faith groups that are all mobilizing in various ways. What everyone can do – spread the word for NO CLOTHES ARE NEEDED AT THIS TIME….

Ashley Judd will help Celebrate Freedom Tonight

Ashley Judd is in Louisville tonight Kentucky’s basketball’s most famous and best-looking fan is in town tonight. Ashley Judd is the featured speaker at the Celebrate Freedom Dinner at the downtown Marriott. It’s a fund-raiser for The Healing Place, which helps men and women struggling with addiction. The event is sold out, thanks to the popularity of the actress, who has also become known as a “humanitarian, political activist, fashion designer, model, and philanthropist,” according to Wikipedia, not to mention her notoriety for showing up at Rupp Arena to pull for the Wildcats. She has a degree in French from…

Gambling On Kentucky

Exactly four years ago today, Governor Steve Beshear proposed up to twelve casinos in Kentucky. As of Tuesday morning his latest proposal wants to allow up to seven casinos to operate in the commonwealth. You may ask what is different except the number of gambling palaces. Not something I would have guessed could happen four years ago. None of these changes guarantee passage. In fact I’d guess the chances are less…

It was, after all, the inaugural fanfare for Louisville’s first arts season in 35 years that has not rolled out under the reign of legendary Allan Cowen. Louisville’s ears have been pricked for signs of transformation. Indeed there would have to be—the Fund for the Arts moving from the leadership of a life-long arts enthusiast who spent his childhood in the concert halls of Pittsburg, to a home-builder-turned-philanthropist with an admitted indifference to classical music. There couldn’t be two personalities…

Some Super News Items

Welcome to Super Bowl Week, where we’re all wishing we had a way to get in the big game, and can’t believe that tickets to Sunday’s Giants-Patriots game will set you back a couple of house payments.  The game, of course, is a big deal for local TV, and it’s really better to watch the game in a place where you can actually hear the commercials and, yes, pay attention to the game.  The Patriots are favored by 3, so I’m going with the Giants and Eli Manning. Oh, the game is on WAVE this year, and kicks off at…
