And Some LouisvilleKY.com News

If this site were a person, we’d be wearing onesies and have just gotten home from the hospital. So please bear with us as we continue to make improvements. And thanks for stopping by, Louisville (too much “Anchorman” over the weekend). One of the improvements is the calender you see to the right. I’m picking and choosing events worth mentioning there, so if you want your event up there, get in touch with me. You can also expect to see more new writers making their initial posts on LouisvilleKY.com, as the site is continuing to grow in variety, quality and…

Lamb: “Local is the Future of TV”

Bill Lamb, Fox41’s GM, is finding it hard to contain himself over the prospects for his station in 2011, starting with today’s launch of a 6:30 newscast. “It’s going to be a journalist’s dream,” he says. “It will be all news and a little bit of weather. No sports, no puff pieces. It will be high-energy and fast-paced.” Lamb said the station has hired five new people in various positions as a result of the new newscast, including an anchor for the 4 pm newscast in Gil Corsey. He was most recently in Charleston, W.V.  David Scott and Jennifer Baileys…

Get in Touch with The Greatest

It’s a Holiday, and a good one. Rather than just enjoy the day off (if you work for the government), it’s a good day to visit the Muhammad Ali Center downtown. If you haven’t been, you’re missing one of the city’s best attractions. To celebrate the holiday, and the 69th birthday of “The Greatest”, there are special admission discounts. Take an old cell  phone down there and get in free. Otherwise it’s $2. The Center is presenting King’s “I Have a Dream” speech all day. Ark Farce: Experts lined up to scoff at attendance projections for the Ark Encounter amusement…

The C-J’s Joke Includes J-town

If it weren’t presented in this morning’s newspaper as if it were legitimate news, it would be easy to laugh off this “Top Places to Work” supplement. But what caught my eye was the listing of the city of Jeffersontown as the city’s top mid-size employer. Upon closer inspection, you find out that the insert is a product of a 4-year-old company with an office in Pennsylvania called Workplace Dynamics, which conducts employee surveys. The company asked 876 local companies to participate in this survey, and a whopping 78 did so. About 9 percent. Would you be surprised to know…

Weekend Edition Featuring the Rick

I get the feeling that Rick Pitino is not over his little spat with the media. You may remember that hastily-called press conference, when Pitino blasted the media for reporting on the whole Karen Sypher mess. I went to that one, and the media assembled there are still scratching their heads over Pitino’s speech, which was to tell everyone in the media that they shouldn’t cover Sypher’s antics because they were lies. He seemed to be motivated to speak out after a TV station interrupted programming to report a new Sypher development. But Pitino can’t control what the media chooses…

Hi There!

If Rick Redding’s Little Bo Peep, I’m quickly becoming one of his sheep.  After writing under his tutelage at another online organization he’s enticed me to come back for more. I am pretty sure it’s the large paycheck that lured me.  For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Abby Miller, the former WLKY Morning Show Anchor.  I was proud to be a member of a fabulous morning show team that netted the only First Place distinction in that time slot in the station’s history.  It’s a feat that’s not been repeated since I left in September 2008.  I’ve…

‘Hornet’ May Not See a Lot of ‘Green’

There’s a reason this was released in January… Starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos, Christoph Waltz, and Tom Wilkinson. Directed by Michael Gondry Ouch. This one was near painful. For those not in the know, “The Green Hornet” was an old-time radio show that ran from 1936-1952 and started a string of serials (old time short movies) as well as a 1966 TV series that starred Bruce Lee as Kato, the assistant to crime-fighting newspaper publisher Britt Reid. That’s as much as this movie has to do with the original storyline. Seth Rogen is Britt Reid,…

Sex, Money or Both?

Goooood Morning! Yesterday some members of the LouisvilleKy.com got together at Browning’s Restaurant downtown to talk about the launch of this site. We’ve got some big ideas, so stay tuned. About Last Night:  It was nice to see U of L get to play on real TV last night on ESPN2.  Don’t know about you, but I’m not getting ESPNU just to watch these games, and the watching experience online doesn’t cut it. Now that the Big East has started, let’s hope that nonsense is over. This Cards’ team is fun to watch, but as was evidenced last night against…

Wienies at JCPS, and a Quote Machine Retires

Now that I’m getting back in the groove of blogging, I’m starting to hear some interesting little tidbits about some of you people. Don’t forget there’s a link on the left to send me ideas, and you can always reach me on Facebook.  So here’s what I’m hearing: When Did JCPS Hire the Wienies?: There was absolutely no reason for JCPS to call off school yesterday.  It is a pain for parents. The snow barely covered the ground. Blame JCPS Transportation Director Rick Caple.  The fear of screwing up seems to guide the decision-making process. Cox and Fox: If you…
