Story from Louisville, KY., – Scientists from the University of Louisville believe they’ve developed a unique way to find areas of the brain that are susceptible to Alzheimer’s at an earlier age. Neurologist Dr. Greg Barnes says the new system is a potential breakthrough because it would allow doctors to “identify individuals who have specific defects in distinct brain circuits” and prevent those circuits from sustaining further damage or dying. Currently, close to half of Americans age 85 or older suffer from Alzheimer’s which begins to erode brain function up to 15 years before it’s diagnosed. Dr. Barnes says…

Seeing is believing when it comes to the Heuser Health’s optimization program. Results like that are making me more determined than ever to keep this regimen going.  I’ve also dropped 11 pounds, lost 2 1/2 inches on my belly, and even found myself able to bend my knees…

My Health Optimization – The Nutrition Piece

Without realizing it, I had fallen into the trap that many Americans do – eating crap. I had always been too busy, or too lazy, to eat nutritious foods. Sure, I hear in the media about the importance of diet, but to me it often meant mixing in a salad once a week. I certainly wasn’t intentional about my food intake, taking a lot of pleasure in the convenience and taste of fast food. In a normal week, I was eating a lot of pizza, sandwiches and starches, washing it down with beer and bourbon. My clothes weren’t fitting right,…

Passport’s New HQ is a “Big Win” for Louisville

In the 18 years since Phillip Morris shut down its plant at 18th and Broadway, West Louisvillians were waiting for something good to happen there. As Rev. Kevin Cosby wrote in a now famous editorial in the Courier-Journal, the one that sparked what would become a $100 million investment, the area needed a few wins. That sequence of events is now the stuff of history. How Cosby wrote the editorial, then Passport CEO Mark Carter read it, then called Mayor Greg Fischer on a Sunday with the idea. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Carter noted the remarkable speed in which the…

Optimizing My Self with Heuser Health; Part 1

As a lifelong athlete, I’m aware that my recent lack of exercise, coupled with an unhealthy diet, has caused some adverse affects on my overall health. I’ve gained weight, of course, but also started to feel a little sluggish, and I get out of breath easy when I do move, and I feel my midsection growing with every bite of pizza. This week marks the start of the end of all that. I’m working with my friends at Heuser Health to get better – starting with diet and exercise, some vitamins and hormone replacement therapy. My enthusiastic leader on this…
