Story from LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Thursday, May 3, 2018) – In possibly the most anticipated pre-Derby entrance at Churchill Downs since Arazi in 1992, runaway UAE Derby (GII) winner Mendelssohn emerged from quarantine Thursday morning to get his first feel of the track beneath the historic Twins Spires. Trained by Aidan O’Brien and owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier and MichaelTabor, Mendelssohn and three stablemates entered the main track at the five-eighths gap and proceeded to walk and jog a clockwise 1¼ miles. They then reversed course and cantered one mile before exiting through the six-furlong gap and taking the scenic route back to Barn 17. Exercise rider Dean Gallagher was aboard Mendelssohn.
