Beshear Issues Challenges in State Of the Commonwealth-sort of

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear offered up a slew of challenges in his annual State Of The Commonwealth speech Tuesday night. He managed to call out Washington, Wall Street, and The Kentucky State Senate all within 30 minutes, and nary a word on casino gambling! Beshear is normally restrained when giving speeches, but actually managed to call up some fire and brimstone when he called for Washington to “get off our backs” when it comes to regulating the coal industry. More impressive than I’ve seen from him in a while. He also managed to directly challenge the Kentucky State Senate-calling on…

Legislating An Election? Maybe!

Now that we know Governor Steve Beshear will not be facing an opponent in the Democratic primary, it will be interesting, (and no doubt entertaining), to sit back and watch the annual State Of the Commonwealth Speech coming up when the General Assembly returns to Frankfort next week. I expect Beshear will attempt to create the illusion that he’s got just as ambitious an agenda as David Williams. The trouble with that scenario is that the GOP Senate President from Burkesville, has already managed to push most of his own agenda through the Senate. Williams is also running for Governor…

K.O. Says Goobye-For Now

To my surprise Keith Olbermann has taken his leave from MSNBC. I imagine many others who religiously watched him five nights a week felt shocked and dismayed at his sudden, and somewhat mysterious farewell, but I can’t stop thinking that it was a self- immolation of sorts by Olbermann.  I was an avid watcher of Olbermann when he first came back to MSNBC eight years ago, but as time went on, his somewhat self-indulgent indignation began to rub me wrong, and I drifted away. Olbermann has made no secret that he is a great admirer of the late CBS legend…

Gov Gov-Who’s gonna Be Gov?

Well, the hijinks in the Kentucky Governor’s race have officially begun, and not a moment too soon! After a down period following the November general elections, I’ll wager most political junkies in Kentucky are waiting with bated breath for the race that seems to be shaping up. At least one major national publication calls the race the one to watch in 2011. And that’s not just in Kentucky-they chose it over all other races in the country.  Now,being an off year, that’s not tough to understand since no other major national races will be contested, and it could very well…

A New Beginning

New beginning is what we need now more than ever. Not just this site, but all over the country. With the recent Arizona shootings, I’m reminded once again how much we need to cool the vitriol and heated political rhetoric on all side of politics. Free speech make sour country great, but knowing how to use it wisely seems to have fallen on deaf ears in recent months. Whether the alleged shooter is a right wing nutjob, a liberal wack job or a middle-of-the-roader who just snapped, you can be sure he was somehow, someplace, and a t some time…
