Green Resigns–Do The Right Thing

That’s more than the title of a Spike Lee film, it should be the mantra every politician lives by. It’s also what Judy Green finally did last week after saying for weeks she would not resign her Metro Council seat in the wake of multiple ethics charges. Green and her supporters held several rallies including one just 14 hours before she finally did the right thing and quit. During that rally Green claimed she was being crucified, and was compared to Martin Luther King and Jesus Christ several times. Cries of racism filled the air for weeks because Green was…

A Love Story featuring…Me?

This post will be extremely out of character for me, but blogs are meant to be free form and expansive so why not. I am in love for the last time in my life with the only woman I ever loved. This is a long story, but it’s a GOOD story so indulge me a few moments of your time. This all begins back in 1982 when I met and married a beautiful hometown girl. She was 18 and I was 21. Some claimed we were too young, but when you’re in love who cares. We were blissfully happy for…

Bunning: Williams “Hard To Like” Good One Jim!

Pot, meet kettle. Former Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning says GOP gubernatorial candidate David Williams just is not a very likeable guy. This from a man who courted hostile press coverage like Hugh Hefner scopes out 22-year-old blondes. The likeability factor aside, Bunning did formally endorse Williams over the weekend, saying Williams had always been there for him in the past when he needed help, and now it’s his turn to help. A noble turn of phrase, but probably too late to do Williams any good. What DW could really use is a little help from Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul and…

It’s Not That Fancy After All

Well it finally happened. The gloves are off and Governor Steve Beshear is wearing the biggest target in Kentucky politics. After Saturday’s annual Fancy Farm picnic, it’s clear Republican David Williams and Independent Gatewood Galbraith are zeroing in on the incumbent and it’s about to get very ugly. Beshear had the chance to speak first at the annual shindig, and instead of the rip-snorter of a speech that is usually expected, he talked about his recent trip to visit Kentucky troops and how his heart was with them and not ready for partisan politics. Well Steve — you seemed to…

Fancy Farm-BBQ and Bull!

Just as politicos around Kentucky set their sights on Fancy Farm, the most recent poll on the Governor’s Race shows Republican David Williams still trailing incumbent Democrat Steve Beshear by a healthy 24 points. A margin very similar to a different poll that was disputed by Williams and company. So now the question seems to be how soon will the GOP go negative in the gubernatorial contest. I think Saturday’s Fancy Farm blowout will provide all the answers. I know this will come as a shock, but Williams has clear problems with likeability. A 36 percent unfavorable rating among likely…

Down Memory Lane With Nancy Grace

Nancy Grace. Two words that provoke reactions whether you agree with her or not. Grace has made her career by proclaiming the guilt of various criminal defendants around the country. Notice I said guilt. The possibility of innocence never seems to enter her mind. I admit I took rather perverse pleasure in watching her near melt-down after the Casey Anthony verdict came down. As for my opinion, I think Anthony is certainly culpable in Caylee’s death, but I digress. Grace, along with other TV law “experts,” was raked across the coals eloquently by Cheney Mason — one of Casey Anthony’s…

Weiner-gate; Evolution Of A Scandal

Well another congressman has lied about something. I know it’s difficult to control your shock, but please try to keep yourselves together. Last week New York Congressman Anthony Weiner had a picture posted from his Twitter account, that we all know about. The crotch shot. The picture went to a youthful FEMALE Twitter follower, and she somehow got it into the hands of a conservative blogger, who further outed Weiner today with yet more questionable pictures and electronic communications. I really don’t need to re-hash what happened, but let’s examine how Weiner handled the situation. Frankly, he botched it from…

Now It’s Time For Real Politics

The 2011 primary election has finally come and gone, with no real surprises. save for the totally unexpected strength of GOP gubernatorial candidate Phil Moffett. The choice of Kentucky Tea Partiers, Moffett was extremely strong in losing to Senate President David Williams. So strong that he beat Williams in Fayette and Jefferson counties-only the two largest population centers in the commonwealth. That begs this question. Will Moffett support and endorse Williams, and what will that endorsement cost the Burkesville strongman? Moffett has said he would endorse the winner of the primary, but would not promise his tea party folks would…

Bin Laden’s Death-Moderate,Don’t Celebrate

I admit one part of me wanted to jump for joy when I found out about the death of Osama Bin Laden. I had the same visceral reaction many others have shared, and continue to experience today. But another part of me is saddened, and repelled by our joy. I do not deny his killing was necessary, but to rejoice as many seem to be doing is not something I enjoy. I won’t deny that President Obama and others will benefit from this on a political level, but to use the phrase, “welcome to hell”, is not something that needs…

Birth Certificate-Meet The Hairline

Well, now that the White House has officially released Barack Obama’s long-form birth certificate, we can finally figure out some things. First of all, why do this now-or address it at all? Two very good reasons, and both are pure politics. Obama was very astute in the way he dealt with this whole thing. He waited for just the right moment to unload on the ‘birthers’. But, he needed a one-note buffoon of a Republican candidate wannabe to take the bait. Enter Donald Trump. AKA “the Hairline.” Trump was so one-note that I found it hard to believe anyone would…
