A Great Day for Angie, WHAS

Angie Fenton will be reporting around town for WHAS-TV

Angie Fenton, managing editor of the Voice-Tribune, Red Carpet hostess at Churchill Downs and all-around media maven, doesn’t need another job. But she says she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be  a part of WHAS-TV’s upcoming daily lifestyle and entertainment program, Great Day Live.

Fenton will join hosts Terry Meiners and Rachel Platt on the one-hour show airing at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. Great Day Live! debuts August 22. Fenton will continue her role with the growing newspaper.

Kirk Szesny, executive producer of the new show, said that negotiating the agreement with Fenton took some time, but that’ the result is a “win-win for everybody.” Fenton will be doing live reports from remote locations during the shows.

Other new hires at WHAS-TV for Great Day Live! are senior producer Holly Rudolph and producer/talent Laura Rogers.

Fenton, who has been a regular guest on WAVE’s afternoon show, will debut with WHAS July 21 at 7:30 p.m, hosting a special about the station’s Health and Fitness Expo, scheduled for July 22-23 at the downtown convention center.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to work with WHAS11’s ‘Great Day Live’ crew,” Fenton said. “I’m also extremely grateful that I already work for the most amazing bosses — Jonathan and Tracy Blue — at the Voice-Tribune/ Blue Equity who continue to support my professional endeavors outside of my managing editor and chief writer roles with The Voice.  It’s a great day for me and I’m thrilled — and ready to get to work.”

WHAS-TV is changing its morning and afternoon programming this fall as a result of the end of the Oprah talk show at 4 (which will be replaced by a 4 p.m. newscast and a shifting emphasis toward local programming. Great Day Live! replaces “Regis and Kelly” in the station’s morning lineup.

The show, which Szesny says will include up to 30 percent paid placements, is part of an overall surge in daily local programming. WAVE already airs WAVE3 Listens and 725 Live, and the CW has a morning show called Louisville Live.

  1. Lets get this straight the news comes on at 4 because we Oprah is going off and then Regis and Kelly is going to be replaced by the same clowns. I dont know about anyone else but we see Rachael Platt and all those guys wayyyyyy to much and Terry Meiners is just an idiot. ABC has been going down hill for quite some time and looks like it is picking up speed.

  2. I can not believe that yóu took regis and kelly off the air for this show. So for your fans who watch regis and kelly every morning, what do you suggest that we do? Will it be airing at a different time? Or will it not come back on at all? I would love a response. I have been searching all over the internet to find out what happens now for regis and kelly watchers!
